journalism according to a leading french journalist

i remember from my time in paris that the only newspaper worth reading was "libération", sometimes also "le monde" even though it was too official. today, liberation is in big financial trouble.
so libération got itself a new c.e.o. - laurent joffrin (photo above), top editor at the left-wing magazine "le nouvel observateur" (read by those who consider themselves intellectuals).
this is his program:

faire de Libération le "porte-parole de la société face aux pouvoirs", la "maison commune d'une gauche ouverte" et
"l'instrument d'information de tous ceux qui aspirent à
comprendre le monde et à le changer".

you can see here in this citation a chain of old communist terminology that certainly won't leed to the newspaper's recovery... when will french journalists understand that press can not be a spokesman, not of the gouvernment, nor of the public. a newspaper also is not a political party, but such idea is already too complicated for being understood in france.
